Chapter 5 - The Silver Flash Drive

"She isn't useless, Celeste," Damian replied, staring down at the cruel socialite with lethal apathy. "She's actually the most brilliant, highly observant woman in this entire building."

Damian pulled a sleek, heavy silver flash drive from his shirt pocket. He didn't hold it up for the terrified crowd. He held it directly in front of Celeste's arrogant face, letting the warm chandelier light reflect off the custom-engraved casing.

All the color violently drained from the socialite's face, leaving her looking like a terrified ghost. Her jaw literally unhinged as she recognized the specific, heavily encrypted device.

"That's impossible," Celeste choked out, profound panic actively destroying her mind. "That drive was locked in my private wall safe! The biometric scanners are completely impenetrable! Only my fingerprint can open it!"

"They are impenetrable to the police," Damian replied flawlessly, a chilling, victorious smirk touching his lips. "But they aren't impenetrable to my syndicate."

The wealthy guests gasped in absolute shock. The terrifying mafia boss hadn't just crashed the party to protect a weeping assistant. He had actively, ruthlessly breached the socialite's multi-million-dollar estate to steal her most highly classified, federally illegal secrets.

"Give that back to me!" Celeste shrieked hysterically, lunging aggressively toward the towering titan.
