Chapter 6 - The Charity Fraud

Laurel wasn't a weak, submissive victim anymore. She stood confidently in the mafia boss's heavy jacket, her dark blonde hair shining under the crystal chandeliers, completely emboldened by the massive, untouchable predator standing right beside her.
"I know exactly what's on that drive, Celeste," Laurel stated clinically.
Celeste physically stopped breathing. The warm ballroom lighting suddenly felt incredibly cold.
"For the last six months," Laurel explained flawlessly, ensuring the wealthy, elite donors in the crowd heard every single word, "you forced me to manually forge the accounting ledgers for this foundation. You haven't been giving a single dime to the children's hospital."
The entire ballroom erupted into chaotic, furious whispering. The millionaires realized they had been massively defrauded by the very woman hosting the gala.
"You've been actively, maliciously embezzling millions of dollars of donor money to fund your lavish lifestyle and buy your ridiculous diamond necklaces," Laurel announced, pointing directly at the heavy jewels around Celeste's neck.
"You lying little witch!" Celeste roared aggressively, her face turning violently red. "Nobody is going to believe a pathetic, broke assistant! You stole that drive to blackmail me!"
"She didn't steal it," Damian interrupted smoothly, completely dominating the room. "She memorized the digital encryption codes while you were screaming at her to fetch your coffee. She gave the codes to me, and I sent my men to empty your safe."
