Chapter 7 - The Calm Before the Storm

Silas carried Elena up the hidden servant staircases, bypassing Vivienne's master wing entirely. He brought her into his highly secure, private penthouse suite, locking the heavy mahogany doors behind them.
He laid her gently in the warm, massive bed, calling his private, trusted medical team to tend to her immediately.
He brought little Lily into the room. Elena wept all over again as she hugged the brave little girl who had sneakily talked to her through the air vent and saved her life. The innocent toddler had accomplished what an entire mafia empire had failed to do.
Silas stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, his chest heaving with slow, lethal breaths. He looked out over the sprawling, manicured grounds of his estate.
Downstairs, the mansion was currently bustling with activity. Vivienne had invited the city's elite politicians, high-society families, and syndicate capos for a massive morning brunch in the grand ballroom. She was planning to officially announce their wedding date, cementing her absolute, untouchable power over the Thorne empire.
