Chapter 5 - The Grand Theft

The heavy mahogany doors of the dining room swung open. Patricia marched into the hallway, annoyed by the screaming.
"Claire, I told you to let him leave!" Patricia barked, adjusting her dark green dress. But when her eyes landed on the open metal lockbox and the legal document in Daniel's hands, all the color violently drained from her flawless face.
She looked like she had just seen a ghost.
"You hid the true Will," Daniel stated, his dark eyes locking onto his mother-in-law with pure, demonic wrath. "You bribed the corrupt estate lawyer to bury this, and you forged a fake Will to steal ten million dollars from a six-year-old child."
"He's lying!" Patricia shrieked hysterically, completely losing her high-society composure. She pointed a shaking, manicured finger at Daniel. "That document is a fake! Arthur left the money to me! I am the matriarch of this family!"
"And you," Daniel growled, looking down in pure disgust at Claire, who was weeping pathetically on the floor. "You knew about this. You let your mother steal from your own daughter."
"I did it for us, Daniel!" Claire sobbed, desperately grabbing his leg. "Mom promised me half the money! We could have bought the beach house! Lily is just a kid, she doesn't need ten million dollars! I am her mother, I know what's best for her!"
"You stood there and watched your mother slap her across the face," Daniel whispered lethally, completely devoid of human empathy. "You aren't a mother. You are a parasite."
Patricia realized her entire billion-dollar lie had just violently collapsed into dust. She wasn't going to let a middle-class journalist ruin her.
