Chapter 1 - The Spilled Water

The exclusive, multi-million-dollar luxury restaurant dining room was usually a sanctuary of hushed conversations, clinking crystal glassware, and elite high-society negotiations. Illuminated by massive, glittering crystal chandeliers, the polished marble floors reflected the warm candlelight of the pristine white-clothed tables. But tonight, the sophisticated atmosphere was violently shattered by a sudden, suffocating wave of pure terror radiating from the most important table in the room.

A heavy, crystal water glass had just been knocked over, spilling freezing water completely across the crisp white tablecloth and splashing directly onto the lap of an eight-year-old girl.

Standing frozen in terror was Claire, a twenty-something waitress wearing a crisp black vest over a white button-down shirt, her brown hair pinned up in a neat, professional updo.

Sitting at the head of the table was Dominic Vale. He was a terrifyingly handsome man in his thirties, possessing dark hair, a sharp shadow of stubble, and wearing a meticulously tailored black suit over a dark black shirt. He was the undisputed, utterly ruthless boss of the city’s most powerful mafia syndicate.

Dominic shot up from his leather chair, his dark eyes burning with immediate, protective fury as his little daughter flinched away from the spilled water. The two massive, heavily armed bodyguards standing in the shadows behind him instantly stepped forward, their hands resting ominously on the inside of their suit jackets, ready to execute whatever brutal command their boss issued.

Dominic pointed his finger aggressively down at the spilled water, his expression twisting into a mask of pure, unforgiving coldness. He didn't care about apologies. He didn't care about excuses.

"You're fired," Dominic Vale barked, his cold, commanding voice slicing through the deadly silence of the dining room like a razor blade. "Get out of my sight before I have my men physically throw you into the street."

Claire trembled, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs. She was entirely surrounded by lethal men. The most basic survival instinct screamed at her to run away and never look back.

But instead of running, Claire completely ignored the mafia boss. She turned her back on him and slowly dropped to her knees right beside the terrified little girl.
