Chapter 4 - The Silent Connection

The tension in the luxury dining room was absolutely suffocating.
The two massive bodyguards took a heavy, synchronized step forward, their expensive leather shoes clicking against the polished marble floor. They were fully prepared to physically grab the waitress by the collar and aggressively throw her out the back service doors of the restaurant for defying their boss.
"I said, get away from her," Dominic growled, his deep voice vibrating with a lethal, dark promise as he stepped around the table, his towering frame completely eclipsing the crystal chandelier above.
Claire completely ignored the terrifying mobster. Her heart was in her throat, her hands trembling slightly, but her eyes remained entirely, empathetically locked onto the terrified eight-year-old girl.
Claire knelt perfectly still beside Audrey’s chair. She took a deep, calming breath, forcing her own fear down. Slowly, deliberately, Claire raised her hands into the space between them.
Moving with beautiful, fluid, and incredibly fluent precision, Claire's hands began to speak the silent language the little girl so desperately needed.
"It's okay. You're safe," Claire signed softly, her facial expression radiating a pure, warm, and deeply reassuring calm. She kept her movements slow and deliberate, projecting a steady, maternal energy into the terrified space.
Audrey gasped silently. Her wide, panic-stricken eyes suddenly snapped away from the spilled water and locked entirely onto Claire’s hands.
