Chapter 2 - The Boy No One Saw

Just twenty minutes earlier, the interior of the bustling Chicago train station had been a chaotic sea of holiday commuters. People rushed past beneath the grand stone architecture, completely blind to the tragedy unfolding right in front of them.

Claire was simply trying to catch her train home. But her sharp eyes caught something that made her stomach drop. A little boy, no older than six, was standing alone near a massive holiday wreath. He was wearing a heavy navy winter coat with a fur-lined hood and a small black backpack, his face red and streaked with fresh tears.

Commuters shoved past him, knocking him side to side. No one stopped. No one cared. But Claire noticed something far more sinister than an uncaring crowd.

Two large, rough-looking men in matching leather jackets were weaving through the crowd, their eyes locked on the boy. They weren't station security. They weren't concerned citizens. They were moving with tactical precision, flanking the crying child from both sides to block his escape.

Claire’s heart pounded against her ribs. She didn't know who the boy was, and she certainly didn't know he was the sole heir to the city's most dangerous crime family. She only knew that a child was in imminent danger, and no one else was going to save him. Without a second thought, she dropped her own luggage and sprinted toward the boy.

👉 Will Claire reach the boy before the two mysterious men snatch him away?
