Chapter 4 - The Arrival of the Boss

The heavy doors of the SUVs swung open in unison. A dozen stern, broad-shouldered men in tailored dark suits and overcoats poured out, instantly forming a tactical perimeter. Their hands rested menacingly on the weapons concealed beneath their jackets.

Claire stumbled backward, holding Matteo tightly against her chest as the freezing wind whipped her long, wavy brown hair around her face. She was completely surrounded.

From the center vehicle, Vincent emerged. His presence alone commanded absolute terror. He adjusted his tailored black overcoat, his eyes scanning the scene with terrifying precision. He had received a frantic call ten minutes ago that his nephew’s security detail had been compromised and the boy was taken.

Now, he saw a strange woman in a beige coat holding his terrified nephew in the snow, while his men had their guns locked on her. To Vincent, the situation was obvious. This woman was part of the crew trying to kidnap his bloodline.

"Put the boy down, slowly, and step away," Vincent ordered, his voice dangerously low, cutting through the howling wind like a blade.

Matteo was crying so hard he couldn't even look up. He had buried his face entirely into Claire's shoulder, blinded by his own tears, screaming, "I lost my uncle!" in Italian.
