Chapter 9 - The Execution of Justice

Sal let out a desperate, animalistic cry and raised his gun, aiming wildly at Vincent's back.

He never even got his finger fully around the trigger.

Vincent spun with terrifying, unnatural speed, drawing his own weapon from his overcoat and firing a single, deafening shot. Sal collapsed backward into the gray slush, the snow around him rapidly turning a deep, dark crimson.

The echo of the gunshot rang through the streets, bouncing off the stone walls of the station. The bodyguards didn't even flinch; they simply moved in to secure the perimeter and cover Sal's body.

Claire stood frozen, her heart racing, but she forced herself not to look away. She had promised Rosa she would be brave. She had promised to deliver the message, no matter the cost.

Matteo, safely shielded behind the heavily armored bodyguards, peeked out and looked at Claire. He wasn't crying anymore.

Vincent slowly holstered his weapon. He walked over to Sal's lifeless body, pulling the sleeve up to fully expose the serpent tattoo. Rosa had been right. The betrayal had been right beside him for years. Vincent closed his eyes, taking a deep, shuddering breath as the weight of his grandmother's final act of love washed over him.
