Chapter 1 - The Crying Heir

The luxurious Italian restaurant was practically vibrating with suffocating tension. Under the warm golden lighting and sparkling crystal chandeliers, the blurred guests in formal attire sat frozen in their seats, too terrified to even clink their silverware.

At the center VIP table, a nightmare was unfolding.

Vincent, a fiercely handsome, notoriously ruthless mafia boss in his late thirties, sat at the head of the white-clothed table. He wore a sharp black suit with his black shirt unbuttoned at the collar, a heavy gold watch catching the ambient light. He looked incredibly tense, exhausted, and pushed to the absolute brink of violence.

In his muscular arms, his six-month-old baby, Michael, was screaming at the top of his lungs.

The blonde-haired infant, dressed in an expensive white lace outfit, had been crying relentlessly for over an hour. Vincent’s massive bodyguards had cleared the immediate tables, ready to break jaws if anyone dared to complain. Vincent was a widower; his wife had died in childbirth. He ruled the criminal underworld with an iron fist, but he was entirely powerless to comfort his own son.

Suddenly, Emma, a twenty-five-year-old waitress, approached the most dangerous table in the city.

She wore a short-sleeved white shirt, a black vest, black pants, and a crisp white apron, her blonde hair pinned in a messy updo. She didn't flinch at the bodyguards. She completely ignored Vincent's lethal glare. She simply crouched down gracefully right beside the boss’s chair.

Without asking, Emma gently reached out and took the screaming baby directly from the mafia boss's arms.
