Chapter 6 - The Agency's Secret

"Vincent, no!" Claudia wailed pathetically as the massive bodyguard grabbed her by the arm, violently dragging her away from the VIP table. "I love you! I am going to be your wife! She is a liar!"
Vincent completely ignored her screams. He slowly sat back down in his chair, leaning forward, his intense, dark eyes locking entirely onto Emma.
"Sit down," Vincent ordered softly, pointing to the empty chair beside him.
Emma slowly stood up, her knees trembling. She carefully sat in the expensive chair, keeping Michael securely against her chest. The baby had stopped crying again, lulled back to sleep by her steady heartbeat.
"Why did my fiancée look at you like she had seen a ghost?" Vincent asked, his voice a low, lethal whisper.
Emma took a deep breath. She had nothing left to lose.
She reached into the pocket of her black uniform pants. She pulled out a small, folded piece of paper—a heavily redacted copy of the original surrogacy contract she had managed to save before she ran for her life.
She placed it on the white tablecloth.
"Because she paid a man to kill me six months ago," Emma whispered, tears finally falling down her cheeks. "I am the surrogate, sir. I carried him."
Vincent stared at the paper. He recognized the signature of the corrupt doctor who had managed the process. He recognized the date. The cinematic realization crashed over him with the force of a nuclear bomb.
