Chapter 4 - The Surrender

Lucas stared at the maid kneeling on the marble floor. The cinematic realism of the moment was completely agonizing.

He searched Maria’s face, looking for the lie. He looked for the exasperation that his mother had always shown, or the cold, terrifying impatience his father always radiated. But he found absolutely nothing but unconditional, genuine patience.

With a slow, hesitant movement, Lucas’s small, trembling hand reached out. His fingers tightly grasped the edge of Maria’s crisp white apron, holding on as if it were a lifeline in a raging ocean.

He took one tiny step forward. Then another.

The seven-year-old boy completely surrendered. He threw his small arms tightly around Maria’s neck, burying his tear-soaked face deep into her shoulder, letting out a raw, devastating wail of grief that had been trapped inside his chest since his mother abandoned them.

"Don't leave me," Lucas pleaded, sobbing uncontrollably into her uniform.

Maria didn't hesitate for a single micro-second. She wrapped her arms securely around the little boy, hugging him back with fierce, protective strength, gently rubbing his back as he cried.

Dominic remained standing in the shadows of the doorway. He slowly lowered his head, a profound, agonizing guilt washing over his hardened features. He realized he had built an empire of steel and violence to protect his son, but a maid had just saved the boy's soul with a single hug.

👉 The beautiful moment was finally healing the broken boy, but a toxic intruder was about to violently crash the peace.
