Chapter 8 - The True Caretaker

Camilla let out a pathetic, dramatic sob and turned on her heel, fleeing down the hallway toward the master suite to frantically pack her designer bags before the guards arrived. The threat was entirely neutralized.

The grand hallway fell back into a profound, heavy silence.

Dominic let out a slow breath, adjusting the cuffs of his white shirt. He slowly turned his massive frame to face Maria and Lucas.

Maria kept her hands gently resting on Lucas’s shoulders. She didn't look terrified of Dominic, and she didn't apologize for the broken statue. She stood with quiet, cinematic dignity, ready to accept whatever punishment the boss deemed necessary to protect the boy.

Dominic didn't yell. He walked slowly toward them, stopping just two feet away. He looked down at the broken bronze horse on the marble floor. Eighty thousand dollars of metal destroyed in a single second.

He didn't care about the money. He cared about the fact that his son was finally looking at him without sheer terror in his eyes.

Dominic slowly dropped to one knee, ignoring the sharp pieces of broken marble. He brought himself down to be perfectly eye-level with his seven-year-old son, just as Maria had done minutes earlier.

👉 Dominic was about to make a confession that would completely rewrite the rules of his violent empire.
