Chapter 5 - The Cruel Intruder

The heavy front doors of the mansion suddenly swung open, letting in a blast of cold Chicago air.
"What in the world is that racket?!" a shrill, arrogant voice shrieked, instantly shattering the peaceful, emotional moment in the hallway.
Stepping into the foyer was Camilla. She was a woman in her early thirties, wearing a wildly expensive fur coat over a tight red designer dress. She was Dominic’s new fiancé, a ruthless, status-obsessed socialite who had specifically targeted the mafia boss for his immense wealth.
Camilla stopped dead in her tracks, her eyes widening in pure disgust as she saw the heavy bronze horse statue lying cracked on the marble floor. Then, she saw Lucas hugging the maid.
"Are you completely insane?!" Camilla screamed, aggressively marching down the hallway, her high heels clicking like gunshots. "That statue cost eighty thousand dollars! You little brat!"
Lucas physically flinched, burying his face deeper into Maria's shoulder, terrified of the screaming woman.
Maria immediately stood up, keeping Lucas positioned safely behind her own body, using her grey maid uniform as a human shield against the furious socialite.
"He just had an accident, ma'am," Maria said calmly, her voice completely polite but possessing a titanium backbone. "I will clean it up immediately."

Camilla sneered, stepping aggressively into Maria’s personal space. "You're just a servant! Don't you dare speak to me! I told Dominic to send this broken kid to boarding school, and this proves I was right!"
👉 Camilla thought she was securing her place as the lady of the house, but she had absolutely no idea who was standing in the shadows.
