Chapter 5 - The Arrogant Interruption

The wealthy guests murmured in pure panic, shifting uncomfortably as the armed guards blocked every single exit.

Julian stepped out from the crowd. He was a handsome man in his early forties, wearing a sharp gray suit, completely projecting the false aura of a concerned, loyal friend.

"Dominic, what is going on?" Julian asked smoothly, forcing a confused smile as he walked toward the center of the room. "Why are we locking down the ballroom? Ethan is fine. It's just a ruined piece of cake."

Dominic didn't answer immediately. He stared at Julian with dead, unblinking eyes. He noticed that Julian had casually slipped his left hand deep into his trouser pocket, deliberately hiding his wrist from view.

"Someone tampered with Ethan's food," Dominic stated, his voice a low, terrifying rumble that echoed off the crystal chandeliers.

Julian’s realistic facial micro-expressions betrayed a sudden, sharp spike of panic, but he masked it instantly with loud, arrogant outrage.

"Tampered with it?" Julian gasped, turning his head to glare violently at Sophia. "It was the maid! She's the one who brought the plates out from the kitchen! She must have slipped something into the frosting to extort you, Dominic! Look at her, she's practically shaking!"

Sophia let out a horrified sob, clutching Lily tightly against her chest. "No! I swear to God, Mr. Moretti! I would never hurt Ethan! I didn't touch the food!"
