Chapter 8 - The Cornered Snake

Dominic stared at the Chef, then slowly turned his dark, merciless eyes back to the man struggling in his grip.

He had invited this man to his dinner table. He had trusted him with his empire. And this man had just attempted to murder an innocent eight-year-old boy in cold blood.

"Why?" Dominic demanded softly, the restraint in his voice far more terrifying than a scream.

Julian stopped struggling. He realized he was completely, inescapably trapped. The sniveling coward vanished, replaced by the bitter, power-hungry monster he truly was.

"Because as long as Ethan is alive, I am nothing but your shadow!" Julian spat, his face twisting into a furious snarl. "You were going to hand the entire syndicate over to him when he turned eighteen! I built this empire with you, Dominic! I bled for this family! I deserved to be the sole heir!"

"You deserved to be a king," Dominic mused, his voice utterly devoid of human empathy.

"Yes!" Julian breathed heavily, thinking his twisted logic had finally broken through. "It was just business, Dominic! You know how this world works! We can move past this!"

"You tried to murder my son," Dominic replied smoothly. "There is no moving past this."

Dominic forcefully shoved Julian backward. The traitor stumbled and fell hard onto the marble floor, landing mere inches from the smashed blue and white cake.
