Chapter 7 - The Undeniable Proof

Julian refused to move. He stared back at Dominic, his eyes wide with a desperate, cornered panic.

Dominic didn't ask a third time. With blinding, explosive speed, the mafia boss reached out and grabbed Julian’s left forearm. His grip was a bone-crushing vice. He violently yanked Julian’s arm out of the trouser pocket, pulling the gray suit sleeve all the way back to the elbow.

Gleaming under the warm light of the crystal chandeliers was a heavy, custom-made, solid gold chronograph watch.

Little Lily peeked out from behind her mother’s uniform. She didn't hesitate. She pointed her tiny finger directly at the glowing metal.

"That's the watch," Lily confirmed, her voice ringing with absolute certainty.

Julian panicked. He tried to rip his arm away, but Dominic’s grip was unbreakable.

"It's a coincidence!" Julian shrieked, his sophisticated facade completely shattering into pathetic desperation. "Half the men in this room wear gold watches! I was in the kitchen adjusting the cake topper! I didn't poison anything!"

At that exact moment, the heavy kitchen doors swung open. Chef Armand, the estate's head of culinary security, rushed into the ballroom holding a small, electronic testing device.

"Mr. Moretti!" the Chef gasped, completely ignoring the crowd. "I ran the rapid swab on the smashed frosting on the floor! It's a massive, highly concentrated dose of unrefined peanut oil! If Ethan had taken even a single bite, his throat would have closed in five seconds!"
