Chapter 6 - The Lethal Standoff

Two security guards stepped forward, reaching for Sophia’s arms.
"Touch her, and you lose your hands," Dominic whispered.
The guards froze instantly, stepping rapidly backward into the shadows. They knew who truly ruled the room, and it wasn't the man in the gray suit.
Julian swallowed hard, the color draining slightly from his perfectly groomed face. "Dominic... she is a minimum-wage servant. She is obviously lying to protect herself. You can't possibly believe a filthy three-year-old girl over your own second-in-command."
Dominic took a slow, deliberate step toward Julian. His imposing, muscular frame completely eclipsed the traitor.
"I didn't say the cake was poisoned, Julian," Dominic noted, his tone dripping with lethal precision. "I just said someone tampered with it."
Julian realized his mistake a fraction of a second too late. He had rushed to accuse the maid of a crime that hadn't even been fully articulated.
"I... I just assumed," Julian stammered, taking a tiny, subconscious step backward. "You locked down the room. I assumed the worst to protect Ethan."
"You assumed," Dominic repeated coldly. He stopped just inches from Julian's face. "Take your left hand out of your pocket."
The entire ballroom stopped breathing. The cinematic tension reached an agonizing, suffocating peak.
Julian’s chest heaved. He forced a strained, arrogant laugh. "Dominic, this is ridiculous. You are embarrassing me in front of our guests over a child's imagination."

"Take it out," Dominic ordered.
