Chapter 6 - The Traitor Revealed

Luca’s mind raced, his brilliant, tactical brain snapping the puzzle pieces together with sickening clarity.

"If you saw this," Luca growled, stepping closer, "why didn't you scream? Why didn't you call my guards?"

"Because the man who did it was the one commanding your guards!" Hannah wept, looking up at him with desperate, terrified eyes. "It was your brother, Marco!"

The silence in the ballroom was deafening.

Marco Moretti, Luca’s younger brother and the second-in-command of the entire Chicago syndicate, was standing just ten feet away, holding a crystal glass of bourbon.

Marco’s handsome face drained of all color. The casual, arrogant smirk he always wore completely vanished. He looked at the waitress on the floor, and genuine, unadulterated panic flashed in his dark eyes.

"She's lying, Luca!" Marco yelled, his voice cracking as he quickly stepped forward. "She’s a crazy, delusional waitress trying to extort us! I loved Elena! I love Sophia! Why would I hurt my own niece?!"

"Because as long as Sophia is alive, she is the primary heir to the Moretti empire," Hannah shouted back, her maternal instinct completely overpowering her fear of the mafia. "If she died a 'natural' death from a virus, you would be the only one left to inherit the throne if something happened to Luca!"

Marco reached inside his tailored suit jacket, his hand hovering dangerously near his concealed weapon. "Shut your mouth, you fat cow, or I will—"
