Chapter 9 - The Debt of a King

Hannah quickly wiped her face, stepping backward nervously. She was terrified of overstepping.
"I'm sorry for causing a scene, Mr. Moretti," Hannah said softly. "I'll go back to the kitchen and pack my things. I'm sure the catering company will fire me."
"You aren't going to the kitchen, Hannah," Luca said, his voice steadying, the powerful, commanding aura returning, but this time laced with profound, absolute respect.
He stood up, effortlessly lifting little Sophia securely into his strong arms. The little girl rested her head comfortably on her father's broad shoulder, finally safe.
"And you are absolutely done working as a waitress," Luca declared, his voice echoing across the silent ballroom for all the wealthy guests to hear.
Hannah blinked, utterly confused. "Sir?"
"You possess a level of loyalty and brilliance that I cannot buy," Luca stated, pulling a sleek, black checkbook from his suit pocket. He quickly wrote down a number and handed the slip of paper to her.
Hannah looked down. She gasped, covering her mouth as fresh tears poured down her face. It was a check for five million dollars.
"That is to reimburse you for the lab testing, and to ensure you never have to worry about a bill again," Luca said smoothly. "But more importantly, starting tomorrow morning, you are the Head of Medical Operations for the entire Moretti estate. You will have a private suite, a state-of-the-art laboratory, and you will personally oversee my daughter's continued recovery."
