Chapter 1 - The Sacred Roses

The blazing mid-morning sun beat down on the meticulously manicured luxury mansion garden, reflecting brightly off the sparkling water of a towering stone fountain. The estate was a fortress of absolute wealth and power, but the serene, picturesque beauty of the blooming white rosebushes was about to be violently shattered.

"Who dares touch my wife's roses?!"

The roar of pure, unadulterated fury thundered across the stone path. Jack, a fiercely handsome man in his thirties, stormed out of the mansion. He wore a heavily unbuttoned white dress shirt that exposed the extensive, dark tattoos sprawling across his muscular chest and arms. A dark navy vest, tailored trousers, and a massive luxury watch completed the intimidating, lethal aura of a feared syndicate boss. Those white roses were a sacred memorial to his late wife, and nobody was allowed near them.

Standing near the bushes, completely frozen in terror, was a tiny six-year-old girl.

She had light brown hair tied up with a large light blue bow, wearing an elaborate, slightly frayed light blue floral dress and scuffed white shoes.

A tall, imposing security guard in a dark suit immediately stepped toward the little girl, raising his hand to forcibly remove her from the property.

The little girl flinched violently. Her tiny shoulders shrank defensively as she tightly gripped a single, pristine white rose to her chest, shutting her eyes in pure fear.

Jack abruptly raised his tattooed hand, stopping the massive guard dead in his tracks. His angry expression shifted as he looked at the frightened, fragile child.

"Don't touch her," Jack commanded, his voice dropping to a quiet, authoritative rumble.

Jack slowly walked over and crouched down on the sunlit stone path to match the little girl's height. He studied her dirty face.

The girl looked bravely into Jack's intense dark eyes. Resting visibly over the collar of her blue dress was a heavy, tarnished silver locket.

"My mommy is very sick," the little girl whispered, her voice trembling but incredibly brave.

Jack’s gaze dropped from her eyes to the silver locket. His breath hitched violently in his throat. The anger completely drained from his face, replaced by absolute, paralyzing shock. His jaw tightened, and his eyes widened in sheer disbelief. He knew that locket. He had custom-designed it for his wife seven years ago.
