Chapter 9 - The Stripping of the Queen

All the blood violently drained from Victoria’s face. She looked like a cornered, feral animal.

"She's alive," whispers erupted like wildfire across the ballroom.

"It's an imposter!" Victoria shrieked hysterically, completely losing her sophisticated high-society facade. She grabbed Jack’s arm. "Jack, shoot her! It's a setup by a rival cartel!"

Jack easily ripped his arm away from her grasp. He reached into his tuxedo pocket and pulled out the heavy gold and black diamond charm bracelet. He held it up for the entire room to see, right in front of Victoria’s horrified eyes.

"She ripped this off your wrist the night you tried to blow her up, Victoria," Jack said, his voice a low, demonic rumble.

Victoria stumbled backward, her white lace dress tangling around her legs. She realized the lie was over. She looked out at the crowd, searching for her own cartel family members to protect her.

"Guards!" Victoria screamed to her men. "Kill them all!"

But her guards didn't move.

"Your cartel is gone, Victoria," Jack revealed smoothly, delivering the ultimate, devastating blow. "While you were getting your hair done this morning, my men dismantled your entire family's operation. Your father is in a federal holding cell, and your lieutenants have surrendered to my syndicate. You have absolutely no power left in this city."

Victoria let out a blood-curdling scream of pure despair. She hiked up her million-dollar wedding dress and desperately tried to run toward the side exit.

"Lock the doors," Jack commanded softly.

Four massive bodyguards slammed the exits shut. They violently grabbed Victoria by the arms, hauling the thrashing, kicking bride back to the center of the room.
