Chapter 7 - The Wedding Eve

"Is there a problem with the flowers, darling?"
Jack’s deep, smooth voice echoed through the massive foyer.
Victoria instantly dropped her cruel demeanor. She spun around, a sweet, manipulative smile plastered across her flawless, heavily contoured face.
"Oh, Jack!" Victoria sighed theatrically, walking over and resting her manicured hands on his chest. "These idiot caterers are just stressing me out. The wedding is tomorrow, and everything has to be absolutely perfect for our big day. We are going to be the most powerful couple in the city."
Jack looked down at her. It took every single ounce of cinematic restraint he possessed not to wrap his hands around her throat right then and there. He smiled a cold, empty smile.
"It will be an unforgettable day," Jack agreed softly.
He casually walked past her, pouring himself a glass of bourbon at the crystal bar cart. He took a slow sip, his dark eyes watching her through the mirror.
"You know, Victoria," Jack said casually, swirling the amber liquid. "I was looking through the safe today. I was trying to find something blue for your bridal outfit. It made me think about that custom black diamond bracelet I bought you years ago. The one you lost."
Victoria froze. Her realistic facial micro-expressions betrayed a sudden, sharp spike of panic, but she masked it instantly with a dismissive laugh.
"Oh, that old thing?" Victoria smiled nervously, waving her hand. "I told you, it fell off my wrist into the ocean. Why bring that up now?"
"Just feeling nostalgic," Jack replied, taking another sip.
