Chapter 5 - The Undeniable Proof

Jack stood perfectly still in the cramped clinic room, the sheer magnitude of the betrayal settling into his bones.
"Victoria told me she was your best friend," Jack whispered, his mind racing. "She was the one who comforted me after the funeral. She helped me rebuild the syndicate."
"She built her throne on my grave," Clara spat, the maternal anger finally cutting through her sheer terror.
Clara carefully reached under the thin, stained mattress of her hospital cot. She pulled out a small, heavily wrapped cloth bundle. With shaking hands, she unfolded the fabric and held the object out toward Jack.
"When her men dragged me onto the docks that night," Clara explained, her voice steadying with fierce resolve, "I fought back. I grabbed Victoria’s arm. I ripped this off her wrist before they threw me in the trunk of a car."
Jack stared at the object in her palm.
It was a custom-made, solid gold charm bracelet dripping with black diamonds. It was a one-of-a-kind piece that Jack had personally commissioned for Victoria years ago when they were just business associates. Victoria had claimed she lost it in the ocean during a boating trip.
The physical proof was absolutely undeniable.
The sorrow in Jack’s eyes completely vanished. The devastating grief of the last six years was instantly, violently incinerated, replaced by a cold, demonic, and utterly terrifying wrath. The most dangerous mafia boss in the city had fully awakened, and his focus was entirely on vengeance.
Jack slowly took the heavy gold bracelet from Clara’s hand, slipping it into the pocket of his dark navy vest.
