Chapter 10 - The Vow Fulfilled

"Jack, please!" Victoria sobbed pathetically, completely humiliated in front of the city's elite. "I did it because I loved you! I wanted to be your queen!"
"You are a parasite," Jack stated coldly, completely devoid of mercy.
He walked over to the weeping woman. With one sharp, violent motion, he ripped the massive diamond engagement ring right off her manicured finger.
"Take her to the warehouse," Jack ordered his head of security. "Strip her offshore accounts. Transfer every single dollar to a trust fund for my daughter. When you're done, hand her over to the federal authorities with the full confession of attempted murder. Tell the judge I want her in solitary confinement. Deny her bail."
Victoria’s hysterical cries echoed through the ballroom as the guards dragged her violently out of the room, her reign of greed permanently destroyed.
The ballroom fell into a profound, heavy silence.
Jack turned his back on the chaos. The terrifying mafia boss completely melted away. He walked slowly down the aisle toward Clara and Mia.
He ignored his tailored tuxedo and dropped to both knees on the marble floor.
"I am so incredibly sorry," Jack wept, genuine tears spilling from his dark eyes. "I will spend the rest of my life making this right. You are my only queen."
Clara looked at the man she had loved and feared. The vulnerability in his eyes erased six years of terror. She took a shaky breath, letting go of Mia’s hand, and dropped to her knees beside him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, finally, truly safe.
Little Mia smiled brightly, holding up her white rose.

In the months that followed, Victoria was sentenced to life in federal prison. Jack completely purged his inner circle and moved his family to a secure, beautiful estate. The nightmare was over, and as Jack watched Clara and Mia planting new white roses in the garden, he finally found genuine peace, knowing his true family was home forever.
Do you think a life sentence in prison was enough justice for Victoria, or did the cruel fiancée deserve a harsher punishment from the mafia?
