Chapter 2 - The Ghost's Daughter
The cinematic tension in the sunlit garden was absolutely suffocating. The tall guard in the background remained perfectly still, sensing the massive, earth-shattering shift in his boss’s demeanor.
The little girl swallowed hard, her small hands clutching the white rose and the silver locket simultaneously.
"My mommy gave it to me," she answered softly, her innocent eyes searching Jack's face. "She told me that the white roses from this garden have magic in them. She said they used to make her smile. I just wanted to bring her one so she stops crying."
Jack’s chest stopped moving. The blood in his veins turned to absolute, freezing ice.
"What is your mommy's name?" Jack asked, his voice cracking, completely devoid of his usual terrifying mafia authority.
"Clara," the little girl whispered. "I'm Mia."
Jack staggered backward, his highly polished shoes scraping against the stone path. The world spun around him.
Clara. His beautiful, beloved wife, Clara. The woman who had supposedly burned to death in a horrific, tragic yacht explosion exactly six years ago. The police had told him there were no survivors. He had buried an empty casket. He had spent the last six years turning his grief into a violent, merciless reign over the city’s underworld.
And now, a six-year-old girl with Clara’s exact hazel eyes was standing in his garden, holding a locket that was supposed to be at the bottom of the ocean.
Jack didn't hesitate for a single second. The ruthless, calculating exterior of the syndicate boss snapped back into place, but this time it was fueled by a desperate, burning hope.
He stood up to his full height and turned to his lead guard.

"Bring the car around. Now," Jack ordered smoothly, pointing toward the sleek black luxury car parked in the background. He looked back down at the little girl, gently extending his large, tattooed hand. "Take me to your mommy, Mia. I'm going to help her."
