Chapter 8 - The Grand Betrayal

The next evening, the grand ballroom of the city’s most exclusive hotel was a breathtaking display of absolute wealth. Crystal chandeliers glowed warmly over hundreds of elite guests, including the most powerful politicians, judges, and syndicate bosses in the country.

The string quartet played a beautiful melody as Victoria walked down the aisle.

She wore a custom, million-dollar white lace gown, dripping in diamonds, soaking in the envy and admiration of the crowd. She believed she had finally won. She had eliminated her rival, secured the fortune, and was about to be crowned the queen of the underworld.

She reached the altar, smiling brightly at Jack.

Jack stood there in a flawless black tuxedo, looking incredibly handsome. But his face was completely devoid of emotion.

The priest cleared his throat. "If anyone here has any reason why these two should not be joined in holy matrimony, speak now, or forever hold your peace."

The room was dead silent.

"I have a reason," Jack stated.

His deep voice echoed through the microphone, completely shattering the elegant atmosphere.

Victoria’s smile vanished. "Jack? What are you doing? This isn't funny."

Jack didn't look at her. He raised his hand.

The massive wooden doors at the back of the ballroom violently swung open. The string quartet stopped playing. The hundreds of wealthy guests turned around and gasped in absolute, paralyzing horror.

Walking down the aisle, completely flanked by Jack’s heavily armed, elite tactical guards, was Clara.
