Chapter 6 - The Interrogation

Victor grabbed my arm with bone-crushing force. He violently dragged me out of the dining room, down the grand hallway, and into the dark, damp, soundproof cellar of the massive estate.

He shoved me brutally against the concrete wall. I collapsed to the floor, gasping for air as Victor locked the heavy steel door behind us.

We were completely alone.

Victor didn't ask me any questions about the Miami cartel. He didn't pretend to interrogate me. He immediately aimed his suppressed pistol directly at my head, a dark, demonic smile spreading across his face.

"You really thought you could run from me, Grace?" Victor laughed cruelly, pacing the concrete floor. "I spent three years wondering why they never found the baby's remains in the ashes. You should have just let the child burn. Now I have to shoot you both and tell Julian you pulled a weapon on me."

"Why did you do it, Victor?" I sobbed, trying to stall for time. "He's your own cousin! She is your blood!"

"Because he's a weak fool!" Victor spat with pure venom. "He was going to legitimize the syndicate! He wanted to leave the criminal life behind to be a father! I burned his wife alive to keep him angry, to keep him focused on the war. The empire belongs to me!"

Victor raised his gun, his finger tightening on the trigger.

"Say goodbye, nurse," Victor sneered.

"I think she's heard enough."

The deep, echoing voice didn't come from Victor.
