Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

Brenda froze. The wine glass stopped halfway to her mouth.
She slowly lowered the crystal glass, her elegant facade cracking slightly. "What do you mean the account is empty? Frank, what did you do?"
"I secured my daughter's future," Frank replied coldly, stepping fully into the living room. "I moved every single dollar into a trust fund for Rosie. You are completely cut off."
Brenda’s face turned the color of wet chalk. She jumped up from the leather sofa, her expensive heels clicking aggressively against the hardwood floor.
"You can't do that!" Brenda shrieked like a feral banshee, completely losing her high-society composure. "Half of that money belongs to me! I am your wife!"
"You aren't my wife," Frank whispered lethally. "You are a thief who intentionally blinded a ten-year-old child so you could buy designer shoes."
Dominic looked up from the floor, entirely confused and scared by the sudden screaming.
Brenda hyperventilated. She realized Frank had found out about the fake doctor appointments. The massive, disgusting lie she had maintained for two years was violently collapsing into dust.
"She's fine!" Brenda roared desperately, trying to justify her abuse. "Her eyes aren't even that bad! I needed that money to maintain our lifestyle! You work in a filthy garage all day! I am the one who makes this family look respectable!"
Frank didn't yell. The cinematic realism of his total restraint was terrifying.
