Chapter 9 - The Eviction

The officers dragged the weeping, hysterical woman out of the beautiful house. Her desperate, pathetic cries faded down the driveway, ending her reign of psychological cruelty, greed, and abuse forever.
Frank turned around and looked at Dominic.
The twelve-year-old boy was sitting on the floor, trembling in fear. He had been utterly spoiled by his mother, taught to look down on his blue-collar stepfather and his visually impaired stepsister.
Dominic looked down at his new, eight-hundred-dollar sneakers.
"Are you going to send me to jail too?" Dominic whispered, tears falling down his face.
Frank felt absolutely zero hatred for the boy. He only felt profound pity for a child raised by a venomous snake.
"No, Dominic," Frank sighed heavily, his voice softening slightly. "But you aren't staying here. Your grandmother is on her way to pick you up."
"But this is my house," Dominic cried softly.
"No, son," Frank corrected gently but firmly. "This is Rosie's house."
An hour later, Brenda’s mother arrived to collect the crying boy and all of his belongings. Frank watched the car drive away, carrying the last toxic remnants of his massive mistake out of his life forever.
The large suburban house fell into a profound, heavy, and incredibly peaceful silence.
