Chapter 10 - The Syndicate's True Heir

The chaotic, toxic energy was entirely dragged out of the room, plunging the grand hall back into a profound, heavy peace.

Rafael completely ignored the shattered glass on the floor. He dropped to his knees right in front of Nora and Ben. The terrifying, ruthless mafia boss completely vanished, violently replaced by a man who had finally found the piece of his soul he lost twenty years ago.

He didn't yell. He didn't command. He reached out with trembling, heavily tattooed hands and gently wrapped his arms around both of them, pulling them into a fierce, desperate embrace.

"I'm so sorry I didn't find you sooner," Rafael wept quietly, burying his face in Nora's shoulder. "I swear to God, you will never scrub another floor for the rest of your life."

Nora let out a heartbreaking sob of pure, unadulterated relief, hugging her massive, powerful uncle back.

Little Ben looked up at the terrifying, tattooed man crying on the floor. He didn't look scared anymore. He smiled a bright, innocent smile and wrapped his tiny arms around Rafael's neck.

They had survived the absolute worst emotional abuse and poverty imaginable, brilliantly endured the darkness, and emerged completely, undeniably victorious.
