Chapter 3 - The Boss's Shock

The heavy, toxic silence in the grand hall was absolutely deafening.

To understand the absolute, bone-chilling magnitude of Rafael's reaction, one had to look back exactly twenty years ago. Before he built his ruthless, multi-million-dollar syndicate, Rafael was a desperately poor teenager living in the slums. He had a younger sister named Elena. Elena had composed that exact, highly specific lullaby herself on a broken piano, singing it to Rafael every night to keep him calm in the violent neighborhood.

But Elena had disappeared twenty years ago, kidnapped by a rival gang. Rafael had burned down half the city trying to find her, but he never did. That melody was a completely hidden, sacred piece of his broken heart. Nobody else in the world knew that song.

"Who taught you that song?" Rafael whispered, his deep voice dropping to a freezing, vulnerable frequency that completely sucked the air out of the massive room.

A close-up captured Nora. She stopped humming instantly. She looked up at the towering, tattooed mafia boss with wide, frightened eyes, completely terrified that she had done something wrong.

"Rafael, please!" Celeste shrieked wildly, violently waving her hands to break the tension. She completely abandoned her sophisticated, high-society persona. "She's just a filthy maid! She probably heard it on the radio! Stop talking to her!"

Rafael didn't even blink. He completely ignored his screaming fiancée.

👉 He knelt directly on the cold marble floor right in front of Nora, entirely desperate for the truth.
