Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Checkmate

Celeste’s burgundy gown swished violently as her knees completely buckled. The arrogant superiority completely evaporated from her eyes, instantly replaced by sheer, unadulterated terror.
"What?" Celeste choked out.
"I found the letters in your private safe an hour ago," Rafael explained, entirely devoid of mercy. "The exact second I realized you hid my sister from me, I dispatched my elite tactical team to your father's compound. He was executed before you even finished your first glass of champagne."
"No! No, please!" Celeste wailed hysterically, dropping to her knees on the highly reflective marble floor right next to the shattered crystal glass.
She looked like a pathetic, desperate animal. "Rafael, please! I'm sorry! I'll give you everything back! I'll leave the state! Please don't kill me!"
"I'm not going to kill you," Rafael whispered coldly. "That would be entirely too merciful."
