Chapter 6 - The Canceled Transfer

Rachel didn't cry anymore. The sadness entirely evaporated, replaced by an ice-cold, unbreakable resolve.

She picked up her smartphone and opened her secure banking app. She navigated to the scheduled transactions page.

There it was. The recurring automatic transfer: $1,850.00 to Thomas Miller. Scheduled for January 1st.

Rachel’s thumb hovered directly over the red "Cancel Payment" button.

She thought about Evelyn’s smug, dismissive face in the burgundy velvet dress. She thought about Thomas telling her not to make a scene. And most importantly, she thought about the tears welling in Leslie’s innocent brown eyes as she stood empty-handed.

"Not anymore," Rachel whispered coldly into the quiet room.

She pressed the button. A prompt appeared: Are you sure you want to permanently cancel this recurring transfer?

Rachel didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second. She hit Confirm.

The screen flashed green. The payment was deleted.
