Chapter 9 - The Brutal Truth

Evelyn gasped, clutching her chest as if she had been physically struck.
"You can't do that!" Evelyn shrieked hysterically. "We will lose the mansion! You are going to make us homeless!"
Mark frowned, looking wildly confused. "What are you talking about, Mom? You guys are loaded. Why is Rachel paying your mortgage?"
Rachel smiled a cold, merciless, cinematic smile.
"They aren't loaded, Mark," Rachel revealed flawlessly, dropping the ultimate bomb. "They have been dead broke for six years. Every single luxury you have, every expensive dinner, and that tablet your daughter got for Christmas? It was all paid for by me."
Mark’s jaw dropped. The blood drained from his face as he stared at his parents in absolute, paralyzing horror.
"You took my money," Rachel continued, her voice vibrating with unstoppable justice, "and you used it to buy gifts for his kids, while you humiliated my daughter and told her you 'ran out of money'."
Rachel's eyes turned darker than midnight.
