Chapter 8 - The Federal Raid

"You ungrateful parasite!" Carmen roared, entirely losing her high-society composure. She lunged forward, grabbing a heavy crystal wine bottle off the table, intending to hurl it directly at Renata.
But Mauricio moved with explosive, blinding speed.
He stepped perfectly in front of his daughter, effortlessly catching Carmen's wrist mid-air. His powerful grip locked around her arm like a steel vice. He twisted her wrist sharply, forcing her to drop the bottle. It shattered into a hundred pieces on the marble floor.
"Touch her again, and I'll break your arm," Mauricio whispered lethally into his mother's face.
Suddenly, the flashing red and blue lights of multiple emergency vehicles illuminated the massive windows of the dining hall.
"FBI! Nobody move!"
A dozen heavily armed federal agents in tactical gear swarmed into the luxury room, their weapons drawn, their badges flashing in the warm chandelier lighting.
Carmen let out a horrific, blood-curdling scream of pure despair as she realized the authorities had arrived.
"Carmen Vance," the lead federal agent announced, marching straight up to the weeping woman. "You are under arrest for massive corporate embezzlement, document forgery, grand larceny, and child endangerment."
"No! Please!" Carmen wailed pathetically, kicking and thrashing wildly as two massive agents grabbed her by the arms, hauling her violently away from the dining table.
The cold steel handcuffs clicked loudly around her wrists, snapping the arrogant thief back into the horrific reality of her crimes. Her expensive silver sequined gown was wrinkled and ruined as they dragged her toward the exit.
