Chapter 9 - The Eviction

As the federal agents dragged Carmen toward the massive wooden doors, Mauricio stepped forward, holding Renata’s hand securely.
"Oh, and Mother?" Mauricio called out smoothly.
Carmen stopped thrashing for a second, looking back with wild, terrified, tear-streaked eyes.
"The federal authorities have already frozen your personal accounts," Mauricio stated with a cold, merciless smile. "The millions you embezzled are being seized to pay restitution to Renata's trust fund. You aren't just going to a maximum-security prison for the rest of your life. You are going to prison completely, irreversibly broke."
Carmen’s eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated horror. The one thing she cared about more than human life—her wealth and her status—had just been entirely annihilated in a single sentence.
"You ruined me!" Carmen screamed hysterically, her voice cracking with pure despair.
"No," Mauricio replied, kneeling down to pick up his beautiful daughter. "You ruined yourself when you made my little girl eat from a trash can."
The agents dragged the weeping, hysterical woman out of the beautiful estate and into the freezing winter night. Her desperate, pathetic cries faded down the driveway, ending her reign of psychological cruelty and greed forever.
The luxurious dining hall fell into a profound, heavy, and incredibly peaceful silence.
The elite guests, realizing they were standing in the middle of a massive federal crime scene, quietly excused themselves, filtering out of the mansion with their heads bowed in respect to the new owner of the estate.
Mauricio stood alone in the grand room, letting out a long, shuddering breath. The heavy, agonizing weight of the betrayal was finally lifted. He had protected his daughter. He had completely destroyed the monster.
