Chapter 10 - The Waking Mother

Six months later, Arthur was officially sentenced to forty years in a maximum-security federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole. Without his stolen money and his elite corporate lawyers, he was entirely invisible, forced to rot in a concrete cell while the world completely forgot his name.

Leo's life completely transformed.

With Arthur's fraudulent restraining order permanently erased, Leo was granted full, absolute legal custody of his daughter. The court also ordered Arthur's remaining legitimate assets to be seized and transferred to Clara's estate as massive restitution for the medical bills.

The bright, beautiful hospital room was filled with warm, golden sunlight.

Clara wasn't asleep anymore. She had miraculously woken up from the coma three weeks after Arthur was arrested. She was sitting up in the hospital bed, completely safe, fiercely protected, and recovering beautifully.

Leo stood right beside the bed, holding his ex-wife's hand with profound, overwhelming love. They had realized through the darkness how much they still needed each other.

Maisie ran into the room. She wasn't wearing a gray medical boot or shivering in terror anymore. She wore her favorite purple dress, running perfectly on two healed feet, and jumped happily onto the edge of her mother's bed.

Clara pulled her beautiful daughter and her fiercely loyal husband into a tight, emotional embrace.
