Chapter 7 - The Little Hero

The chaotic, toxic energy completely paralyzed the grand living room.

The police officers hauled Leo to his feet, preparing to drag the weeping, defeated father out to the police cruisers. Arthur smiled a chilling, victorious smile, completely ready to return to the coffee table and sign his wife's death warrant.

"Wait!" Maisie suddenly shouted, her tiny voice echoing with a fierce, unbelievable courage that completely silenced the entire room.

The six-year-old girl in the purple dress didn't look terrified anymore. She stood perfectly still, pointing down at her heavy gray medical boot.

"Mommy didn't fall," Maisie stated clinically, looking directly at the lead police officer. "He pushed us. And Mommy knew he was going to lie."

Arthur scoffed loudly, dramatically rolling his eyes. "Officers, please. The child is traumatized. She doesn't know what she's saying."

"Yes, I do!" Maisie yelled fiercely.

Maisie reached down and aggressively ripped open the thick velcro straps of her gray medical boot. She completely ignored the pain in her fractured foot. She reached deep inside the thick, padded foam lining of the boot and pulled out a tiny, black USB flash drive.

Arthur physically stopped breathing. The warm morning sunlight pouring through the shattered doors suddenly felt incredibly freezing.

All the color violently drained from the billionaire's flawless face, leaving him looking like a terrified ghost. His jaw literally unhinged as he stared at the tiny piece of plastic in the little girl's hand.

"Before we went down the stairs," Maisie explained flawlessly, holding the drive up in the light, "Mommy took the memory card out of the nanny camera in the hallway. She hid it in my boot. She told me to only give it to Daddy."

👉 Arthur lunged across the room like a feral animal, entirely desperate to destroy the absolute proof of his crimes.
