Chapter 10 - The True Family

The chaotic, frantic energy completely evaporated from the hospital corridor.

Arthur stood quietly, letting out a long, shuddering breath. The heavy, agonizing weight of protecting his daughter from a toxic monster was finally over. He turned around and walked back to the wheelchair.

Claire was crying, but they weren't tears of fear anymore. They were tears of pure, unadulterated relief. The terrifying nightmare was completely finished.

"Thank you, Dad," Claire wept softly, looking up at the man who had just saved her entire world.

"I will always protect you, sweetheart," Arthur smiled warmly, gently wiping a tear from her cheek. "Both of you."

Arthur leaned down and carefully lifted the newborn baby from Claire's arms. He held little Owen Bennett close to his chest, looking down at the sleeping, beautiful boy with a fierce, unbreakable love.

"He's perfect," Arthur whispered, a genuine tear falling from his eye.

In the months that followed, Nathan and Allison completely turned on each other as they faced massive financial ruin and debt collectors. They ended up in a bitter, violent separation, completely abandoning each other to survive on the streets.

Claire moved back into her father's sprawling, secure estate. She raised Owen in a home filled with genuine love, safety, and absolute peace, completely free from the shadow of the man who had abandoned them.

As Claire watched her father gently rock her son to sleep, she realized that family isn't defined by blood or broken promises—it is defined by the people who stay when the storm hits.

Do you think freezing Allison's trust fund was enough justice, or did Nathan deserve a harsher punishment for abandoning his child?
