Chapter 6 - The True Protector

Claire gasped, genuine terror flooding her veins. She desperately tried to push her wheelchair backward, but she was too weak from the emergency C-section. Nathan was actually going to try and steal her baby just to save his own pathetic life.
"You can't do this!" Claire cried, tears finally spilling from her eyes. "He is my son! You abandoned us!"
"I'm his father," Nathan replied coldly, turning his back on her. "I have rights."
"You don't have a single right to anything."
The deep, booming, authoritative voice echoed from the end of the maternity corridor.
Nathan and Allison spun around. Stepping out of the hospital elevator was Arthur Bennett. He was a towering man in his late fifties, wearing a bespoke charcoal suit, radiating absolute, terrifying power. He was one of the most ruthless, heavily connected corporate attorneys in Boston.
He was also Claire’s father.
Arthur marched down the polished tile hallway with the heavy, unstoppable momentum of a freight train. He didn't look at Nathan. He walked directly to Claire’s wheelchair, his fierce eyes softening instantly as he looked down at his newborn grandson.
"Are you okay, sweetheart?" Arthur asked gently, placing a protective hand on Claire's shoulder.
"Dad," Claire sobbed quietly. "He says he's going to file for custody. He wants to take Owen."
Arthur slowly stood up to his full height. He turned around, locking his cold, predatory eyes onto his former son-in-law.
