Chapter 5 - The Ultrasound

Sienna’s victorious smile tightened. She looked at the doctor, clearly annoyed that a hospital employee was questioning her.

"I'm fourteen weeks," Sienna replied sharply, her hand stopping its gentle movement against her abdomen. "Why does that matter to you? You aren't my OB-GYN."

"No, I am not," Dr. Patel agreed quietly. "But when Mr. Whitford demanded a full genetic and medical audit of his wife’s pregnancy to prove infidelity, he inadvertently submitted his own recent medical records, as well as yours, since you were listed as his emergency contact during a recent ER visit."

Preston frowned, stepping protectively in front of Sienna. "What does my ER visit have to do with anything? I had a minor car accident last month. They ran routine bloodwork. That’s all."

Dr. Patel opened the second folder. He pulled out a single sheet of paper with a hospital header.

"Mr. Whitford," Dr. Patel said, his voice dropping into a register of profound, terrifying gravity. "If you had a successful, confirmed vasectomy three years ago, and you never reversed it, then your sperm count is zero."

Preston nodded aggressively. "Yes! That’s what I've been saying this whole time!"
