Chapter 6 - The Hidden Scans

The chaotic, toxic energy was entirely dragged out of the room, plunging the pale-gray examination space back into a profound, heavy peace.
Nora sat perfectly still in her hospital wheelchair. She wasn't an arrogant socialite or a cowardly husband. She was a deeply betrayed woman who just wanted the absolute truth.
Dr. Mercer slowly turned the heavy, illuminated medical monitor so Nora could see the realistic, high-definition X-ray and CT scan imagery.
A powerful cinematic close-up pushed into Nora's widening eyes as she stared at her own bone structure.
"Nora," Dr. Mercer said softly, his voice trembling with heavy, undeniable emotion. "You didn't break any ribs when you fell down those stairs tonight."
Nora frowned deeply, profound confusion washing over her beautiful face. "But my chest hurts so badly. I can barely breathe."
Dr. Mercer pointed a clean, steady finger at the illuminated screen. He wasn't pointing at a fresh, jagged bone break. He was pointing at a massive, completely calcified network of heavily healed fractures scattered aggressively across her ribcage and collarbone.
"Your ribs hurt because the impact aggravated massive, pre-existing trauma," Dr. Mercer explained flawlessly. "Nora, these X-rays show at least seven severe, completely healed bone fractures that occurred roughly two years ago. None of these breaks were ever set by a medical professional. They healed completely naturally, which means you suffered excruciating pain for months."
