Chapter 6 - The Ghost Awakes
Sofia flinched, curling into a tight ball, terrified that it was her sister coming to torment her again.
But when she looked up and saw Alessandro's face, the paralyzing terror completely shattered.
"Alessandro?" Sofia whispered, her voice incredibly weak and raspy. "You... you came. Valentina told me you ordered her to lock me down here. She said you wanted me to disappear so you could marry her."
The sheer, evil magnitude of Valentina's psychological torture hit Alessandro like a physical blow.
"No, amore mio, no," Alessandro wept, genuine tears spilling from his fierce eyes. He carefully, gently wrapped his tattooed arms around his frail wife, pulling her against his chest as if she were made of glass. "I thought you were dead. I buried an empty casket. I have mourned you every single day for three years. I would burn this entire world down before I ever let anyone hurt you."
Sofia buried her face in his neck, breaking down into heavy, agonizing, beautiful sobs of absolute relief. She finally felt his heartbeat. She knew he was telling the truth.
Alessandro held her tightly, pulling the silver wolf and rose necklace from his pocket and gently placing it into her hand.
He stood up, effortlessly lifting Sofia into his strong arms. He looked at Maria and Lily.
