Chapter 6 - Preston Thought Marriage Would Make Giulietta Easier to Control
Giulietta found the messages on Preston’s tablet because he gave investigators permission to examine it after the incident.
He was trying to prove the golf-club swing was spontaneous.
Instead, the messages showed months of preparation for a different kind of control.
Not physical violence.
Expectation.
Preston repeatedly complained to Warren about Giulietta.
She still acts like everything is negotiable.
Warren:
That ends after the wedding.
Preston:
She’s not Mom.
Warren:
Every woman wants structure even when she says she doesn’t.
Another exchange:
Preston:
She refused the joint account again.
Warren:
Then stop asking before you’re married.
And:

That word mattered.
Leverage.
Preston had entered marriage thinking commitment would increase his authority.
Giulietta had entered marriage thinking commitment increased mutual obligation.
They were not building the same relationship.
