Chapter 8 - Giulietta Did Not Pretend the Punch Was Nothing
Preston swung the golf club.
Giulietta ducked.
Caught his wrist.
Redirected the weapon.
Then punched him.
Once.
The immediate danger was real.
So was her response.
She did not apologize for preventing herself from being struck.
But she also did not turn the punch into mythology.
When her younger brother joked:
“You launched him into the bridal rack.”
Giulietta answered:
“He fell backward into it.”
“You hit him hard.”
“Yes.”
“You proud?”
“No.”
That confused him.
“Why not?”
“Because getting attacked on my wedding day is not an accomplishment.”
That became Giulietta’s attitude toward the whole event.
She refused to let violence become the story of her strength.
Her real strength had been ending the relationship.
Leaving.
Telling the truth.
Not returning because Preston cried.
Not allowing family money or public embarrassment to pressure her into silence.
One punch lasted half a second.
