Chapter 8 - The True Family

Dante completely bypassed the arrogance of his immense wealth and power. He gently knelt back down on the Persian rug, bringing himself perfectly to Sophie's eye level.
He didn't look like a ruthless monster. He looked like a man whose broken heart was finally beginning to heal.
"I'm sorry she yelled at you, Sophie," Dante whispered softly, his dark eyes radiating profound, unshakeable respect and warmth. "Nobody is ever going to yell at you in this house again."
Sophie smiled brightly. "Is Bruno going to stay?"
"Bruno is going to stay," Dante promised quietly, gently reaching out to stroke the Doberman’s head. For the first time in six months, the dog didn't pull away from him. Bruno leaned into Dante’s hand, finally finding peace.
Dante looked up as the heavy oak doors opened softly.
Sophie’s mother, the housekeeper, stood in the doorway, absolutely terrified that her daughter had caused a massive disaster.
"Mr. Dante, I am so sorry!" she stammered, rushing into the room.

"Don't apologize," Dante interrupted smoothly, standing up. "You don't clean this house anymore. I am promoting you to executive estate manager. I am doubling your salary, and Sophie is going to be enrolled in the best private school in the city."
