Chapter 4 - The Running Man

"Where did the bad man go, sweetheart?" Adrian whispered softly, though his dark eyes were burning with pure, demonic wrath.

Elsie didn't hesitate. She pointed her small finger directly toward the far end of the marina exit, where the dense crowd of panicked tourists and yacht owners were frantically fleeing the smoke.

"He ran that way!" Elsie shouted urgently. "He had a blue hat!"

Adrian’s jaw clenched so hard it looked like it would shatter.

Suddenly, four massive, heavily armed syndicate enforcers sprinted past the stone balustrade. They weren't running away from the fire. They were rushing directly to their boss, drawing their heavy weapons to secure the perimeter.

"Boss! Are you hit?!" the lead enforcer yelled over the roaring flames.

Adrian didn't look at his men. An extreme, cinematic close-up captured his dark, lethal eyes locking onto the panicked crowd at the marina exit.

He wasn't a victim. He was the apex predator, and someone had just declared a blood war.

"Lock down the entire marina," Adrian whispered, his voice cold, dangerous, and dripping with absolute, unstoppable vengeance. "Nobody leaves. Find the man in the blue hat."
