Chapter 7 - The Brother's Betrayal

Adrian didn't shoot the assassin. He handed the weapon to his lead enforcer.

"Take him to the warehouse," Adrian commanded softly, his voice incredibly hollow, masking the profound, agonizing betrayal tearing through his chest. "Keep him alive. I need him to testify to the family council."

Adrian pulled his encrypted cell phone from his pocket. He didn't call the police. He dialed Julian’s direct line.

Julian answered on the second ring.

"Adrian! Thank God!" Julian panicked over the phone, putting on a flawless, cinematic performance of a terrified brother. "I just saw the news! The yacht exploded! Are you okay? Where are you?!"

Adrian looked at the thick black smoke billowing into the blue sky.

"I'm alive, Julian," Adrian replied smoothly, entirely devoid of his true, lethal emotions. "It was a mechanical failure in the engine room. I'm taking the family back to the main estate right now. Meet me in my private office in twenty minutes. We need to review the security protocols."

"Of course, brother," Julian breathed a fake sigh of relief. "I'll be right there."

Adrian hung up the phone. He didn't look sad anymore. The grieving brother completely vanished. The ruthless, unstoppable mafia king fully awakened.
