Chapter 8 - The Family Council

Twenty minutes later, the grand luxury office of the main estate was completely silent.
Julian practically sprinted into the room, wearing a sharp suit and the heavy gold ring with the black onyx eagle on his finger. He played the role of the frantic, loving brother perfectly, rushing toward Adrian’s massive mahogany desk.
"Adrian, I am so glad you're safe!" Julian gasped, stopping near the center of the room.
But Adrian wasn't sitting behind his desk.
Adrian was standing by the large windows, pouring a glass of expensive bourbon. He didn't turn around.
"It's a beautiful ring, Julian," Adrian stated quietly, taking a slow sip of his drink.
Julian froze. His fake, frantic expression immediately faltered. "What?"
Adrian slowly turned around. He wasn't alone in the room.
Stepping out from the shadows of the dark wood bookshelves were the six highest-ranking, most lethal capos of the entire mafia syndicate. They weren't there for a security meeting. They were the family council, and they were all staring directly at Julian with absolute, unadulterated disgust.
And standing right next to the capos was the assassin in the blue hat, zip-tied and bleeding.
